The last of our ‘special mention’ poems on the theme of changing home is from Alison Raybould. We just couldn’t let it escape us, when it has its emotional heart so strongly in our native Teesside!
‘Pumps mean something different down there!’
At thirteen,
that plimsoll line pounding
and ‘Run For Home’ on the turntable,
I leave ICI in my bedroom window.
Nowadays,
I follow the Tees digitally
and once a season sing of home
in the away end at Villa Park.
Alison has travelled from the North East to Birmingham with several stops between. A word dabbler from an early age, she was particularly inspired by Miss Riding’s English lessons at Egglescliffe Comp. A proud participant in Eastside Projects #twenga8, when not reading or writing she can be found playing with wool.
